Product Description

Colin Despins, a designer of tactical resources from the USA, introduced us to a completely new design of a tactical tomahawk. The design of the Boker Plus Tomahook is influenced by the Celts, Vikings and Native Americans, offering a high degree of functionality thanks to its versatility. So, of course, it can be used for much more than a hatchet, although its wide, sharp edge makes this use very effective. The upper end of the ax head is sharpened like a chisel and is excellently suited for levering open boxes, for example. The Tomahook is also wonderfully suited for use as a shovel. And the knife-like edge can even be used to skin and dismember a deer in case of emergency. The ability to engage the handle directly and securely behind the cutting edge makes a variety of finer cutting work possible. Likewise, this recess can also be used as hooks for various applications. The back of the ax head has a rounded point of impact which may, for example, provide valuable services as a glass breaker. The special design of the Kydex sheath allows you to keep the sheath covered for many working and cutting applications. The recessed G10 scales don't only allow you to hold the Tomahook safely and comfortably. Almost every point of the tang is usable as a tool. There is even a grip on the ax head to make using the steel end as an impact tool safely possible. The proven SK5 carbon steel is used, which becomes corrosion-resistant thanks to the subsequent coating. The SK5 carbon steel, even though it's not corrosion resistant, is the ideal material for this tactical tomahawk, but due to the nature of this steel, it may show some light corrosion on the uncoated edge occasionally, which can be removed by a short resharpening. A high-class tactical tool with a plethora of options!

SK-5

SK-5 is a modern carbon steel suitable for large knives as well as tomahawks and axes. Its hardness grade is 57-60 HRC. We use it in coated form for our Boker Plus tomahawks.

G10

G10 is a so-called glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP for short) used for the mass production of handles but also for blades and even entire knives.

As a glass fiber reinforced plastic, G10 is a composite material. This type of material consists of at least two base materials. The special feature of composite materials is that the finished composite still retains the individual structures of the base materials. This means that the base materials also keep their own chemical and physical properties. Compared to traditional materials, composite materials are lighter and more durable. They were first used in those areas and industries in which weight reduction is a priority, such as aircraft or race car construction.

In recent years, however, composite materials have also been used for other products, including knives. The base materials used for G10 are glass fibers and epoxy resin. Glass fibers are produced by melting glass and extruding fine filaments from the melt. Glass fibers are highly resistant to chemical materials and physical influences, which makes them weatherproof and age-resistant. They are also incombustible. In addition, glass fibers possess a high tensile modulus, which means that they are relatively sturdy. Epoxy resin is a synthetic resin that can be cured to form a plastic material.

Cured epoxy resin is extremely hard and strong but at the same time considerably lighter than metals with comparable properties. To produce G10, a glass fiber matrix, i.e. a woven glass fiber structure, is embedded in epoxy resin. The two materials are shaped and cured together. The curing process permanently bonds the glass fiber matrix to the epoxy resin. The glass fibers make the resulting fiber/plastic composite very sturdy and durable, while the epoxy resin makes the material lightweight. Handles, blades or entire knives made from G10 are often black or charcoal gray; handles made from this material often have a rough surface.
